Spokesperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Dele Oyewale, has emphasised that internet fraudsters, generally referred to as ‘Yahoo Boys’, are more damaging to Nigeria’s economy than any other sabotaging group of individuals.

Oyewale stated this while addressing journalists after an event.

“The present reality today in this country is that the so called internet fraudsters or yahoo boys, they are reeking more havoc on the economy than any other set of people. and so for us to come out of this perception, we need to realise that the anti-corruption fight is a broad-based fight…”

Several Nigerian youths, including high-profile ones, including Hushpuppi, have been jailed abroad due to internet-related financial crimes. The EFCC has been clamping down on Yahoo Boys across the country, with the anti-graft agency usually raiding their hideouts in residentials areas and hotels.
