President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has passed a damning verdict on the administration of President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of being aloof and not in sync with the foremost industrial body in the country.
Speaking on the latest episode of Mic On Podcast while recalling the NLC’s demonstration in December 2025, Ajaero stated that attempts of the labour congress to engage the federal government proved abortive.
He stated that the NLC sent a letter to President Tinubu between May and December 2025 but received no response, r pp prompting the congress to call for a nationwide protest.
“For the past two to three years, it’s not government that is engaging. This government doesn’t engage,” he said.
“It’s only when people engage; they now say A, B, C, D. So they are aloof.
“By December 17, 2025, we pulled out that we were going to the streets. After writing a letter from May to December to the president and there was no response, we fixed that date that we were going to the streets.
“And after that, some governors intervened, and we had an interface. So some governors met with us, and since that time, we have talked once or twice. And those issues, from December last year to now, they are just doing their business.
The remarks by the NLC president is coming in the wake of a three-day warning strike proceeded on by public servants under the auspices of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC).
The union had earlier issued a threat to proceed on strike if the federal government failed to cut the price of petrol to N500 and ratify a new wage award for workers.
