Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the political tide behind presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, is “dead and buried”.
Speaking during his monthly media chat in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State, Wike brushed aside the prospects of the NDC ticket featuring Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in the 2027 presidential elections.
The FCT minister stated that the political conditions had changed since the 2023 presidential election, when Obi, then the Labour Party (LP) candidate, garnered d significant support across the country.
“All this so-called Obi kererenke doesn’t exist again. I have killed it,” he said.
Speaking further, Wike criticised Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying he was not able to deliver when he had the opportunity to govern.
“Nigerians know that Atiku and co have been given the opportunity, but they did not do anything. Nigerians know that the former governor of Rivers state looted our state,” he said.
“Nigerians know that Obi has nothing to offer, he is a dramatist. You were there when Soludo exposed him.”
While acknowledging Kwankwaso’s popularity, Wike questioned whether it would translate into support beyond Kano, where the former governor won the 2023 presidential election.
“I agree that Kwankwaso is very popular, but he ran in 2023 and won in Kano, fine, but what about the other northern states? What about the north central, what will happen there?” he said.
“The Obi wave is dead and buried. How many people are contributing money for Obi today?”
