Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, , Atiku Abubakar, has outlined how he will crash the pump price of fuel with local refinery subsidy if elected President in the 2027 general elections.
Atiku disclosed this on Friday during a world press conference held at his residence in Abuja.
The former Vice President’s latest declaration is coming a few weeks after he reignited the fuel subsidy debate, by saying he would bring back fuel subsidy.
JESNews reports that the pump price of petrol in Nigeria has risen to N1,400 per litre and N1,500 per litre, a situation that is making life more difficult and challenging for Nigerians.
According to Atiku, “If elected, from May 29, 2027, I will introduce a transparent production subsidy for petroleum products refined in Nigeria and sold to Nigerians.
“Our production subsidy will work the same way: government support must bring prices down. Only products confirmed to be refined in Nigeria will qualify.
“Imported products will not. The programme will have a fixed spending limit, National Assembly approval and independent audits,” Atiku said.
